Miranda Waggoner is Assistant Professor of Sociology at Florida State University and affiliated with FSU's Center for Demography & Population Health. She studies the social, political, and ethical dimensions of knowledge production, specifically how medical knowledge shapes—and is shaped by—cultural assumptions about gender, reproduction, and risk. Miranda's recent book, The Zero Trimester, is with the University of California Press, and her articles have been published in Signs, Social Science & Medicine, Gender & Society, Journal of Health Politics, Policy and Law, New Genetics and Society, among others. Her research has been supported by the National Institutes of Health and the National Science Foundation.
Miranda grew up in Texas and graduated from The University of Texas at Austin with a B.A. in sociology and government. She then earned her Ph.D. in sociology and social policy from the Department of Sociology and The Heller School for Social Policy and Management at Brandeis University. From 2011 to 2014, Miranda was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Office of Population Research at Princeton University.
